Your Gaslamp Quarter Walking Tour will begin with the William Heath Davis House - the oldest wooden structure in downtown San Diego. Constructed by William Heath Davis in 1850, the pre-framed lumber “salt box” house was shipped from the east coast by boat around Cape Horn. The present-day museum has been home to fascinating people, including pre-Civil War West Point graduates and Alonzo Horton, who many consider the founder of San Diego. Each room is decorated to represent different eras in the life of the house and its former inhabitants.
