Critics, collectors, and visitors consider the Museum of Contemporary Art San Diego (MCASD) an innovator of art world trends. The museum has amassed one of the world’s most significant collections, boasting over 3,000 paintings, sculptures, drawings, photographs, videos, and multi-media works, spanning everything from pop art and minimalism to post-modern architecture and Latin American art. Only a fraction of works are on display at any given time and the galleries are in constant flux, but that’s part of the fun—you never know what you might see. Enjoy a view of the famous La Jolla beaches from the Oceanview Terrace, and visit the outdoor Garden Gallery where kids can interact with the artwork in a park-like setting. Grab lunch in the Museum Café, and don’t forget to stop by the Museum Store for designer housewares, books, gifts, and more. Hours: Monday, Tuesday, Friday–Sunday, 11:00 am–5:00 pm; Thursday, 11:00 am–7:00 pm Directions: Please see www.mcasd.org for driving directions, or call Purchase Go San Diego Visitor Cards with unlimited FREE general admission to over 35 San Diego attractions, tours, area discounts, and full-color pocket guidebook to the area.
